How can we help you?

How do I assign or change IP addresses for Kaleidescape components?

Before assigning static network addresses to any Kaleidescape components, write down the range used for DHCP addresses and any static network addresses assigned to non-Kaleidescape devices. This will help to avoid creating duplicate IP addresses which can lead to an unstable network environment.
Write down the following information for each Kaleidescape component being assigned a static network address (this information is usually available from the local network router):

  • a valid IP address on the local network;
NOTE: To avoid creating duplicate network addresses, assign each component a unique address outside the DHCP range.
  • The local subnet mask.
  • The IP address of the default gateway.
  • The IP addresses of the primary and secondary DNS servers (the secondary DNS server is optional).

TIP: Assigning a public DNS server, such as Google's at 8.8.8.8, for the secondary DNS server setting may allow DNS to resolve properly if the primary DNS server is not working.
Keep this comprehensive list of network addresses somewhere secure as it may be useful during future network troubleshooting.

Strato Systems

A single Kaleidescape Strato player or Kaleidescape Alto player can be connected to the network via the Wi-Fi connection. When connected to a second player, a Kaleidescape Disc Server or Kaleidescape Terra, a wired network connection is required. Configuring the network settings for a Strato system is done from the browser interface. The network settings for Kaleidescape Strato and Kaleidescape Alto can also be configured in the on-screen user interface.

Premiere Systems

Kaleidescape recommends all components in a Premiere system be connected to the same wired network. Network settings for Premiere systems are configured from the browser interface.

Cinema One

A single Kaleidescape Cinema One player can be connected to the network via the Wi-Fi connection. Cinema One can also use the wireless connection to link to a Kaleidescape Disc Vault, however, Kaleidescape recommends using a wired connection for optimal performance. When two Cinema One players are linked together, a wired network connection is required. Network settings for Cinema One are configured in the on-screen user interface. The network settings for a Kaleidescape Disc Vault connected to Cinema One are configured from the browser interface.

On-screen User Interface

1. Press the Menu button on the Kaleidescape remote, or press Menu on the Remote Control page of the Kaleidescape iPad app, or press the Kaleidescape logo in the top left corner of a touch panel using a Kaleidescape control template.

2. Use the arrow buttons to highlight System, then select Settings. The Settings page appears.

3. If the player has already been connected to the wireless network, or if a wired connection is being used, skip to step 4. If not, select Wi-Fi Setup.

Highlight the desired wireless network and press OK or Enter.
Enter the wireless network password using the onscreen keyboard.
TIP: Numbers can be entered using the numeric keypad on the remote.
TIP: Pressing page up or page down (to the right of the Menu button) shifts the keyboard between upper and lower case letters.

4. Select Network.

5. If assigning a static network address for the first time, select Set static IP configuration. If changing an existing static network address, select Change the static IP configuration. The Static IP Configuration window appears.

6. Using the number buttons on the remote, enter the IP address, subnet mask, default gateway, and primary DNS server that was written down at the beginning of this procedure. The secondary DNS server setting is optional.

TIP: When a number is not 3 digits, pressing the right arrow moves the cursor to the next field. At the end of the line, press the down arrow to move to the next line.

7. Once the settings are correctly entered, select Accept these settings. The Static IP Configuration window is dismissed.

8. The new network settings will take effect shortly. There is no need to restart the player.

To change the network address back to DHCP, follow steps 1-4. On step 5, select Switch to getting IP address automatically via DHCP. Skip to step 8 to complete the procedure. The network address can also be changed back to DHCP by pressing the reset button on the rear panel of the player.

Browser Interface

The browser interface must be accessed from a device connected to the same local network as the Kaleidescape System.

1. Open a web browser and enter:
http://my-kaleidescape on Windows,
http://my-kaleidescape.local on a Mac, or Windows with iTunes (or Bonjour) installed,
or if those methods fail, http://xxx.www.yyy.zzz on Windows, or a Mac, where xxx.www.yyy.zzz is the IP address of the server, or the player/server.
2. On Strato systems and Premiere systems, select the Settings tab. On Cinema One, skip this step.

3. Select the Components tab.

4. Click the Settings button of the component needing its network settings configured. A new window appears.

5. Select the Network tab if it is not already selected.

6. Select Use the following IP configuration:

7. Enter the IP address, subnet mask, default gateway, and primary DNS server that was written down at the beginning of this procedure. The secondary DNS server setting is optional.

8. Once the settings are correctly entered, Click OK. The window is dismissed.

9. Repeat Steps 4-8 for each component having its network settings changed.

10. For the new network settings to take effect, each component must be restarted. If not prompted, a restart can be initiated from the Components page by clicking the Restart button for each component.

NOTE: When restarting each component from the browser interface, the best practice is to restart the players first followed by the server (since it drives the browser interface).

To change a Kaleidescape component back to a DHCP address, follow steps 1-5. On step 6, select Obtain IP configuration automatically using DHCP. Skip to step 8 to complete the procedure. The network address can also be changed back to DHCP by pressing the reset button on the rear panel of Strato, Alto, Terra, the M500 Player, the M300 Player, the M700 Disc Vault or the DV700 Disc Vault.
