EB-006 Player Cleaning Procedures

Engineering Bulletin

PDF Version

Kaleidescape components must have unobstructed airflow. A player draws cooling air through the front and expels the air through vents at the back. Some players also have air outlet vents on the sides and top.

The front air intake must be checked periodically. Any accumulated dust or debris in the player must be removed to maintain proper airflow and operating temperature.

Before reinstalling any component, the component’s location should also be checked and cleaned of any debris to ensure it does not immediately clog the unit’s vents.

Preparation

Tools

Secure the following items:
  • Vacuum cleaner with small, soft dusting brush attachment.
  • Lint-free cloth
CAUTION: Use small, soft dusting attachment. Large or hard tool attachments can scratch or damage. Be careful with large attachments on shop vacuum cleaners.

Proper Handling

CAUTION: Hard drives are sensitive and susceptible to damage from shock. Use extreme care at all times when handling players with an internal hard drive such as Strato, Alto or Cinema One (2nd generation). Do not bump or drop. Failure to observe precautions can result in damage to the drive and loss of content.

Powering Off

The player must be powered off and cables disconnected before beginning cleaning procedures.

1. Locate the POWER button and power off.

NOTE: Kaleidescape Premiere M300 and 300 players have no power button.

CAUTION: After power is off, wait at least 1 minute before handling a player with an internal hard drive such as Strato, Strato S, Alto or Cinema One.

2. Disconnect power cord.

3. Disconnect all cables connected to the back of the player.

Cleaning Strato C, Strato S and Strato

1. Vacuum the air inlet in the lower section of the front panel using a small, soft dusting brush attachment. See Figure 1.
CAUTION: The front panels are easily scratched. Take extra care with the soft brush or take extra steps to protect the front panels.

3. Wipe other surfaces gently with a lint-free cloth.

4. Reconnect power, A/V and network cables, then wait for the player to power up.

5. Verify the player is operating normally.

Cleaning Alto and Cinema One (2nd Generation)

1. Vacuum the front panel gray area air inlet scoop with a small, soft dusting brush attachment. See Figure 3.

3. Wipe other surfaces gently with a lint-free cloth.

4. Reconnect power, A/V and network cables, then wait for the player to power up.

5. Verify the player is operating normally.

Cleaning M500, 1080p, and Music Players and the Movie Player 2

Use the following procedures to clean the player.

1. Remove the front panel by pulling both sides of the panel away from the player. See Figure 5. This effort requires a bit of force. Three ball studs hold the front panel in place, one at each end and one to the right of the disc tray door.

2. Remove POWER, EJECT and IMPORT button caps from the component before cleaning.

3. Wipe outside of buttons with a lint-free cloth. See Figure 4. Inspect button stems. If dirty, carefully wipe clean; be careful not to disturb contacts at the other end of the stem.
