Strato V Quick Start Guide

Setting up a Kaleidescape Strato V movie player

  1. Connect your new Strato V to your home network. An Ethernet cable is supplied. A Gigabit speed network connection is required.
  2. Connect Strato V to your A/V system using the HDMI cable provided. The best quality spatial audio is achieved via HDMI (VIDEO). Note: DIGITAL AUDIO ports are limited to 2 channel PCM (up to 96KHz/24-bit) and Audio Output must be set to PCM Stereo.
  3. Connect the provided power supply to the Strato V, and then plug it in. A surge protector or an uninterruptible power supply (UPS) is recommended. Please wait a few minutes for your Strato V to start up.
  4. Follow any on-screen instructions for activating your system - Note: this step is not required if the Strato V will be added to an activated system/server.
    When entering your email address, consider:
    • If applicable, use the email address of your current Kaleidescape account so that your library can be downloaded to this new system.
    • It is used for all communications from Kaleidescape, including receipts.

    If you don’t receive a verification email within a couple of minutes, check your spam.

    If grouping with Terra server(s), use the on-screen setup:


  5. From the Join System menu in the onscreen setup (page 2). Select the system you want the Strato V to join. The Strato V may reset itself up to three times, and the system components may reboot twice for software upgrades over ~10 minutes.
    If a dialog instructs you to proceed via the Browser Interface, enter the URL into the browser of a device connected to the same network as the Strato V and:
    1. Click Add component at the bottom of the page.
      If Add component is not visible, ensure the software version is 10.18.0 or higher (using the General tab), and that Strato V is connected to the same network subnet as the system it will be joining.
    2. The Strato V player will be listed in the pop-up window (disable any blockers). Click Add to group the Strato V into the system.

Installation Tips for Best A/V Experience

How to Optimize Picture and Audio

  1. HDMI Cables: Kaleidescape players use an 18Gbps high bandwidth HDMI connection. For the best and most reliable experience:
    • Use an HDMI 2.1 Ultra High Speed cable. Do not pinch, fold, or tightly bend.
    • Use a low-gauge cable, like 24AWG or lower for the video signal conductors.
    • Use a double-shielded cable, tested to at least 20Gbps.
    • Use active cables when lengths beyond 15’ (5m) are needed.
    • When using an active cable, or balun, ensure that it can reach 18Gbps bandwidth without compression. Obey the bend radius for the fiber cable.
  2. Digital Audio Cables (RCA): Use a 75ohm controlled impedance, double-shielded cable. If using DIGITAL AUDIO ports, the player Audio Output must be set to PCM Stereo (Note: HDMI provides more audio channels and higher sampling rates).
  3. Routing the Audio: Connecting HDMI (VIDEO) direct to the audio equipmentand passing the video through to the display, or using eARC from the display to the audio equipment, will provide the highest bit rate and most spatial audio experience. Standard ARC audio connections will degrade/compress the audio.
  4. Ground Connections: The Kaleidescape Strato V is ground isolated to minimize ground issues that could cause audible humming on LFE audio channels. Strato V will assume the ground potential of connected components through the cable shields of the HDMI, RCA Coax, and other shielded cables. Avoid shielded Ethernet cables, they will couple the noisy network ground planes to the A/V equipment.
    In the rare case that humming is heard, experiment connecting a ground port to the ground plane(s) of the audio components, using a low-gauge wire. Also try removing shielded cable connections to isolate the source of the noise.
  5. When possible, connect a ground port to the same earth ground as the audio equipment. This achieves the lowest possible electrical noise and provides greatest protection against electrical surge events.
  6. Keep the network cable length to 10’ (3m) or less. If longer is required, insert a network switch between the player and long cable. This will reduce the electrical noise injected into the player and protect against damaging surges.
  7. Verify the audio and video signal outputs using the Show audio and video capabilities and status buttons found in the player’s Settings pop-up window.
