How can the region of a player, disc server, or disc vault be changed?

Blu-ray Region

The Blu-ray region setting is not user changeable. To have this changed for any component, make note of the serial number of the component, along with the current Blu-ray region and the desired Blu-ray region, and contact an Authorized Kaleidescape Dealer.

DVD Region

A DVD can only be imported, cataloged, or played direct, on a component with a matching region. Every Kaleidescape component with an optical drive is shipped set to DVD region 1. The DVD region of a Kaleidescape component can be changed up to four times. This restriction is dictated by the CSS License Agreement of the DVD Copy Control Association, Inc. Depending on the product line, the DVD region can be changed from the on-screen user interface, the browser interface or both.

 
  • Strato systems: The DVD region of an Alto movie player must be changed from the on-screen user interface, while the DVD region of a disc server must be changed from the browser interface.  
  • Premiere systems: The DVD region of a Premiere movie player or disc vault must be changed from the browser interface.
  • Cinema One: The DVD region of a Cinema One movie player (2nd generation) must be changed from the on-screen user interface, while the DVD region of a Disc Vault can be changed from the on-screen user interface or the browser interface.

On-screen User Interface

1. Press the Menu button on the Kaleidescape Remote, or press Menu on the Remote Control page of the Kaleidescape iPad app, or tap the Kaleidescape logo in the top-left corner of a touch panel using a Kaleidescape control template.

2. Use the arrow keys to highlight System, then select Settings. The Settings page will appear.

3. Determine the component needing the DVD region code change.
  • If changing the region code of a player, select DVD Region.
  • If changing the region code of a disc vault, select Disc Vaults. After the Settings: Disc Vault page appears, select DVD Region.
4. Select the desired region. The message (set, awaiting disc) appears.

5. To complete the change, insert a disc from the desired region.


 

Browser Interface

The browser interface must be accessed from a device connected to the same local network as the Kaleidescape system. Obtain a DVD with the desired region code and follow these instructions.

1. Open a web browser and enter: 2. Select the Settings (or SETTINGS) tab. 

3. Select Components from the new second row of tabs.

4. For a player needing the region change, locate the When Importing or Cataloging Finishes: drop down menu. Select Do not eject disc and save the setting by clicking OK. Otherwise skip to step 5.

5. When the Components page is finished loading, click the Settings button for the player or vault.

6. A new window appears. Select the Region (or REGION) tab.

7. When changing the region code for a player, insert a DVD with the desired region code into the tray. Otherwise, skip to step 8.

8. Select the desired region code in the drop-down menu, and click OK.
