In what format are Blu-ray and DVD quality movies stored on the Kaleidescape System?
Whether downloaded or imported from disc, the Kaleidescape System stores an exact digital copy without removing any copy protection. No additional compression is applied, and therefore no quality is lost. When playing a downloaded or imported movie, the same exact bits (including copy protection) are served over the local area network to the player.
NOTE: Systems purchased from Kaleidescape after November 30th, 2014 are not able to import CSS-protected DVDs. For more information, please visit CSS-Protected-DVD-FAQs.
Strato systems do not support the import of discs. DVDs and Blu-ray discs may be cataloged so that they can be shown in the on-screen user interface, just like content downloaded from the Kaleidescape Movie Store.
